A/C Fan outside not....?

Question

working and smelt a weird smell. I set my thermostat all day between 68-70 but the reading was 80 all day. Can any professional A/C repair guy answer this for me? I went outside and noticed that the fan was not working then I pulled the handle on the wall that houses 2 fuses I smelt it and it was a wierd smell. Can this be my problem and where can I find those parts for my A/C Unit im in Patterson, CA 95363 PLEASE HELP GOT 5 KIDS AND SUPPOSED TO GET UP IN THE 3 DIGITS STARTING TOMORROW.

The most likely problem is a burned out fan motor. You need to call a service tech to properly diagnose and repair the problem.

Are they the paper fuses?

Check the 2 fuses with an ohm meter to see if they are blown.

Hardware stores carry the fuses.

You probably need an HVAC technician to come out to fix it.

May seem silly but make sure you check the main breaker panel in the house to see if the breakers tripped. I have seen 100's of people make that mistake. If your breakers are replaceable then get new ones (outside) but keep in mind that if these go it is usually indicative of a bigger problem and then you should have someone look at it.

You need to see is the fan running at the old speed or acting like it is running slower.  If the fan is running at approximately 1500 or 1725 rpm it is ok.  The compressor out side has an internal overload.  This some times opens and after the temp cools down it SHOULD cut back in and run.  But then again there are time when it won't and the compressor will have to be replaced
