Question:

A/C Window Unit Placement

This might be a dumb question, but here it goes...our house has only window units; in one of the bedrooms the only outside wall is solid windows. Here's the problem: they are the old - style crank out windows. How can we get a/c in that room without installing central air? Do they make a/c's for those type of windows (i doubt it)? Thanks for any input.

  1. Mini Split system, all you need is a 4 inch dia hole in the wall no duct work and they make very little noise.

  2. You would probably need to replace a window. I find it hard to accept that one wall is SOLID windows. Floor to ceiling?

They do make through the wall units that can be built in to a wall. Otherwise you frame one in and put in a different window to fill the space. .

  3. You might try a portable one on a stand blowing out the window but It wouldn't be very effecient.Have you tried just fans and fresh air(only good if the roof is well insulated)

  4. My parent's house has windows like that in one room too. I know an easy way to get cold air in that room though and that is to just use a fan blowing air from the other room or area with the window unit.
