Question:

A/C ground drain not draining

Our central A/C has recently began leaking excessively. It leaks into the cement ground drain and the ground drain just lets the water stand. Now the water has been seeping into my son's floor right next to the unit.

My husband put a water hose on the outside hole drain and forced water inside where we saw it draining out of the drain pan under the coils. Is there a way to snake out the ground drain or can we put draino or liquid plummer in there?

OR... could the problem be that the drain pan pipe is not properly draining into the ground drain so the water building up in the coil drain pan is causing it to leak more excessively?

  1. A wet dry vac will do a better job it will not push are the garbage back into the system, the drain line should have a trap also! The unit could also be a little low on gas and this will cause leaks to.
