Question:

A/C in new car smells like urine...under warranty?

My A/C in my 2007 Nissan Altima smells like urine when I first turn it on. It goes away after a few minutes, but it's embarassing when I have others in my brand new car-not to mention it smells disgusting. I am under warranty until 36k mi, and I'm only at 10k. Should this be under warranty to get this fixed? Should I have to pay for this. This is a new car, its only a year old!

  1. It will be under warranty and not cost a dime but getting the dealer to remove the smell will be a different story and if they do not what to work with you then do the following.....

    1. Keep all of the receipts from this situation.....

    2. Call the manufacturer and open a claim against the dealer in question, they must answer back within 2 to 4 weeks or they will be penalized up to 1/2 percent which is alot.

    3. Call the area zone manager as well to set up a time to meet with him or her so that they can smell this for themselves.

    4. This will work but dont just let them spray some chemicals onto the evaporator core and later around 1 1/2 years it starts to smell again.

    5. This will be a big job because I have done many of them so once all has been okayed you will need to give them time to do it correctly...

  2. You better make sure a rodent hasn't used your car for its own person toilet, before you take it to the dealer.

  3. You are describing a very distinct smell, It does sound like an animal might have crawled inside. You would have to pay for the removal of this. A simple check is

    1. turn the car on with ac on

    2. step outside of the car while it's running"dont lock yourself out"

    3. check for the water puddle under the right side of the car "passenger side"

If no water is dripping out of the car, the ac system is clogged and that is under warranty!

  4. >>  Should this be under warranty to get this fixed? Should I have to pay for this.

No.  Take it back and let the dealer fix it.

    Good Luck...

  5. change the cabin air filter located behind the glove box door.squeeze  the sides of the glove box together to let it come out.remove the cabin filter,if its not white change it.
