  1. the people above are just dead wrong.  if you open your doors and windows to hot weather, you will let it into your house.  if your home is still cooler than the outside air, keep all doors and windows shut.  draw all your blinds, and make sure that all head generating appliances are off (this includes lightbulbs, computers and other electrical draws.).

wait until it cools down below 85 degrees.   once that happens, open your doors and windows and use any fans you have to draw outside air into the house.  continue this through the night as late as is possible.  before the temp begins to rise (or at sunrise, if you're up) close all the doors and windows, and put your blinds back down.  open the door as little as possible throughout the day, and keep the fan in whichever room you're in to aid your body as it sheds heat.

if you can stay in during the day, dress as lightly as possible.  wear light cotton clothing to pull moisture away from your skin as you sweat.  ice packs can be applied at pulse points to lower your core temp, and cool (but not COLD) liquids will keep your temp down and prevent dehydration.

DO NOT open the fridge or freezer- the motor will heat the house more than the cool air will keep things cool.  DO NOT open your doors to let in "a draft".  the hot air blowing past you will only heat you faster- cooking you like a roast in a convection oven.
the rest of it is common sense.  take cool baths. leave the tub filled with cool water when you're done to absorb heat.  if it gets too bad, brave the heat long enough to get yourself somewhere air conditioned (the library, the movies, the mall, a grocery store).
