  1. Nope the ice would do no good. With the outside unit running, is there air blowing from the vents? Is the filter stopped up?  In the closet where the inside unit sets, does that fan come on? Look at the 2 copper lines coming from the outside unit, if they are frosted or covered with ice, either there is an air flow problem or a leak in the system, if this is the case you will need to call a service tech.

If the air is coming through the vents, then the problem in the unit itself.

  2. looks like problem with unit by itself

  3. HVAC Tech.:  You need a Professional  to find and fix your problem. Don't waste your ice. Place it in a large pan or bowl in front of a fan and keep "kool " While the Tech. dose his job. Good Luck.
