A Confident Luke Donald all set to bring an end to his major drought at this year’s Masters
One of the serious threats on the field at this week’s Masters will undoubtedly be the world number one Luke Donald who is all set to lay his hands on the coveted green jacket for the first time in his career.
The Englishman is still looking for his first major victory, despite having a brilliant career so far and his past record at the Masters gives him hope of landing the elusive title this year.
He said, “It's great to be here, I feel very good about this course. I think having a good short game is important around here, having good feel on the greens, and trying to be the guy who putts the best, as he will always have a chance”.
Donald is coming out of one of the strongest seasons of his career, where he went over to win the money lists on both sides of the Atlantic, an unprecedented feat in the history of the sport.
He was dethroned from the FedEXCup Money list on the PGA by Webb Simpson but went over to bag the closing event on the tour to reclaim his throne.
Donald’s first appearance at the Masters was itself a fantastic bid, where he finished for a joint third.
He also posted a strong joint fourth last year when he fell for the notorious Rae’s Creek on 12th hole of the “Amen Corner”.
He added, “Obviously my first year here I finished third which was mostly due to just being so excited to be here and having that great kind of excited feeling about everything that was going around. I was in a good mood, I suppose”.
Donald has won 12 professional events in his career with six of them coming on the European Tour.
He has been in contract with the Mizuno Corp and most of the apparel on Donald is provided by the company.
The multi-year contract pays him $1-million for just wearing the Mizuno Visor apart from other payments which include Mizuno Fairway Woods, Irons and Wedges. Donald also carries Mizuno Bag, Head covers and Umbrella.
A victory at Masters could quadruple his earnings from the company.
