Question:

A Couple Venus Flytrap Feeding Questions

I have a venus flytrap, and I have researched how you take care of them. It seems to be doing quite well, but I still have a couple feeding-related questions.

The day I bought it, I fed it a fly. It has finished digesting it about nine days later, and all that's left is a dark, crumpled exoskelton. I heard that it's supposed to blow out by the wind, but the plant is being kept in a small terrarium outside. Should I just leave it alone, or should I try to remove it with tweezers?

Also, so far I have only fed the plant two flies (its largest traps are about 3/4" long), and I am careful not to overfeed it. However, provided the prey is small enough, is it safe for me to feed it bees and slugs, too? I want to make sure I don't kill it by giving it stuff it might not be able to digest.

  1. It isn't even necessary to feed your fly-trap at all.  They will do very well without fly, bees or slugs.  Use this link to get information about culturing fly-traps:  http://www.carnivorousplantnursery.com
