Question:

A Few Melasma Questions?

I recently got a dark blotch on my forehead. I'm pretty sure its melasma and read that its supposed to be temporary. My question is in regards to the treatments. Most say they will lighten and eventually erase the blotch but after treatment if i go out into the sun will it all come right back? Also I'm married and this condition doesn't bother me or my wife. Will this condition just go away? If so whats the average time? That's it for my questions if it helps I'm a 24yr old Caucasian male. We just had a baby and my wife says that gives the guy an estrogen boost which might account for the hormone change that is said to be linked to this. Let me know if you all need any info from me thanks in advance for your help.

  1. Melasma spots can be faded but they will return with any sun exposure.  Estrogen does contribute to Melasma.  Some people say that using straight lemon juice will lighten it.  The time it takes to lighten depends on your skin and how dark it is.  I have had it on my face & it can take a while to lighten - and will will come back immediately with sun exposure.  Once I worked on mine for months to lighten it & went out in the sun for a few hours without sunscreen & it was right back, darker than ever.

  2. Well first of all. Melasma is a type of Hyper pigmentation, which is caused from the hormone "Melanin" overproducing skin cells which create your body's skin colour.. In my opinion, it would take some time for the skin to go back to its colour or not go back at all.... Many skin conditions relating with skin pigmentation such as Vitiligo are permanent... How ever, i do not know much about Melasma but i think that it might go away in about a month. Best of Luck!
