  1. he holding a pair of wool socks

  2. No, but in the 7th one harry believes he finally understands what he would have seen in the mirror: His sister.

  3. In the first book hey says he's holding a pair of socks of some sort that he paticularly enjoys.  But in the 7th book, after Harry does some research on Dumbledore he realizes what he really sees, which hints that he sees himself with his family, everyone happy.

  4. In the Philosopher's Stone, she writes that, when Harry asked Dumbledore what he sees, he answered by saying "I see myself holding a pair of thick, woolen socks."

However, once Harry finds out in the Deathly Hallows what had happened in his childhood, it was said Ariana was killed while Grindlewald and Albus were dueling and fighting. This made Albus feel very guilty about her death.

Therefore, Dumbledore would have seen his (dead) family: his sister, Ariana; his mom, Kendra; and his dad, Percival. Even though his brother is alive as mentioned in DH, Albus saw his brother there, though reconciled with Albus.

    Basically, his whole, happy family.
