Question:

A Horse Question (Catching horses)?

I work on a horse farm. And there is only one pasture and there are 5 horses. When I catch a particular one there is another dominant one who tries to bite and kick and buck to get the horse out of the way of the one I am trying to catch. I've tried a whip, crop but the dominant horse doesn't respond to that. I need that horse out of my way so that I can safely bring the one horse I need out of the pasture. Any tips? Thanks.

  1. Maybe you could try catching the horse that gives you trouble first and then after he is put up safely go for the one you want.

  2. I know exactly what you mean. Where I board there are 23 horses altogether in one 60 acre paddock. If you are timid towards the dominant horses, I would suggest bringing them in first , then proceed to your horse. If you are not timid of them simply "step into their space" and throws your arms and yell LETS GO LETS GO [as you would in getting a horse to move forward in a round pen.] Do not stand beside OR behind him. Always let him know that you are boss, and step directly in front focusing on the horse you want to move.  It will usually startle them, causing them to run away. I hope this helps.

  3. i have 5 horses at at home and all of mine come and us catch them but that 1 horse that kicks let him now that your the boss and if he kicks you whip him as hard as you can
