A J Burnett succumbs to Vernon Wells’ onslaught as Blue Jays destroy Yankees 7-5 (Part - 1)
The American League is heading towards a curtain close conclusion with the final scheduled to take place on 3rd October 2010. The American and National Leagues are gaining high turnover from fans and viewers. The East, Central and West divisions
have been actively generating a sound number of supporters in the matches, leading up to the post-season playoffs.
The New York Yankees are chasing Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East side to clinch the playoff position. Their struggle to get into the post season has seen many ups and downs. Their batting performances at times have tumbled whereas the pitchers
have been coming up with their own debilitating issues. Most of their performances in the recent days have crippled the side to a point where Manager Joe Girardi has been stretched to a pressure pot like figure, not knowing what to do.
Allan James Burnett was the pitcher to have returned for the starting position in the game against Toronto Blue Jays. The New York ball club has failed to register a considerable mark in its last 4 games. They currently are on a 4-games losing streak with
much of the league games now waiting to be played at the home of Boston Red Sox.
Now moving to tonight’s match, the Yankees brought on All James to impose a decent result in the fixture. Phil Hughes had been successful the night earlier against Red Sox while Dustin Moseley, who has been put on hold in the pecking order, was given a further
lay off as Burnett returned for the team on the mound. The versatile pitcher has been on the back foot for the last 5 games. He won 1 but lost 2 matches prior to this fixture.
Monday wasn’t a lucky day for the ball-thrower as he conceded 7 runs off 7 hits. That feat was accomplished in just 2.1 innings with only 48 pitches. His display of athleticism got the ace man to an Earning Run Average (ERA) of 7.22. He also became the 6th
pitcher to have affirmed his name on the list of ball throwers who have gone above an ERA of 7.
Where Allan wasn’t able to prosper, the 25-year-old Jays man, Marc Rzepczynski did so naturally. He out pitched his counterparts and established a better platform for his team-mates to build their runs on. The blue-birds man threw 91 pitches in 5 innings
and allowed 2 runs off 4 hits. He gave away 3 walk offs but got an amazing 6 consecutive strikeouts ruling.
The New York star batsman, Mark Teixeira had nothing but praise for the Toronto pitcher.  He spoke of him after the game, "We've faced him a few times this year and I've never seen him that good. His ball was moving everywhere. It's like swinging at a ghost
out there. You don’t know what it would do."
