A.J. Pierzynski shines as Chicago White Sox defeat Kansas City Royals 10-5 - MLB Update

Chicago White Sox catcher, A.J. Pierzynski had a memorable day with the bat as he struck four RBIs including two home-runs and went 4-for-5 in the White Sox 10-5 win against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City on September 18.
In the first inning, Juan Pierre drove a single-run shot to centre-field while Alexei Ramirez and Paul Konerko both flied out without scoring runs. Similarly, Royals’ designated hitter Billy Butler doubled to deep right-field while Alex Gordon, Melky Cabrera
and Eric Hosmer each ground out without any contribution at the bottom of first inning.
White Sox executed particularly well during second inning and scored two runs to take a 2-0 lead. Pierzynski and Dayan Viciedo both added two collective runs for the White Sox when Brent Morel drove a double-run shot towards deep centre-field. The pitchers
again showed their exemplary performance in the third inning.
John Danks also pitched well for the White Sox as he threw six innings with an ERA of 4.36. He permitted 10 hits, four runs and three earned runs on his 100 pitches. White Sox batters raised their lead 4-0 by posting another couple of runs in the fourth
inning. Alex Rios posted a single run when Adam Dunn doubled to deep right-field.
The second run during the fourth inning was taken by Dunn when Gordon Beckham bunted a sacrifice fly towards left-field. Royals also smashed two runs at the bottom of the fifth inning to reduce their lead 4-2. Yamaico Navarro singled off right-field and
Mike Moustakas scored the first run for the Royals. Brayan Pena scored the second run when Butler hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to first base. Gordon got out to second base at the end of fifth inning.
Royals’ right-fielder, Jeff Francoeur posted one run in the sixth inning to further cut their deficit 4-3 when Johnny Giavotella tripled to deep right-centre. Konerko and Pierzynski both homered during the seventh to extend the White Sox lead. On the other
hand, Cabrera also scored one run at the bottom of the seventh inning to move the score-board 6-4.
White Sox smashed four runs in the eighth inning to get a 10-4 lead while Royals were able to post one run during ninth inning to end the game 10-5. Despite this amazing victory, White Sox lost the four-game series 3-1 at Kansas City.
