A. J. Pierzynski’s homers give Chicago White Sox 10-5 win over Kansas City Royals – MLB Update
Anthony John Pierzynski had two homers on Sunday, September 19 to help the Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 10-5 at Kauffman Stadium.
The White Sox avoided a four-game sweep to overcome the resurgent Kansas City Royals.
It was Bruce Chen who had broken the wrist of Pierzynski on August 12 by a pitch that rendered the White Sox hitter unfit for the first time in his career. Also, and importantly, the White Sox also put an end to the disappointing seven-game losing streak
with this wonderful win.
Pierzynski has not forgotten the injury yet. "It's still stinging and bothers me a bit," Pierzynski said. "It was nice to have a good day and get a win. It feels like its been a while. That gives us a chance to relax a bit."
Paul Konerko also had a homer that helped the White Sox rise to the occasion. It was the 30th home run that Konerko scored this season in 144 games he has played while remaining 527 at-bats with a .306 average.
"It's one of those things that when I came into the season that I kind of felt like that's my job, to drive in runs," Konerko said.
Brent Morel had a two-run double in the second to give the team an early lead while Adam Dunn had a one-run double and Gordon Beckham hit a sacrifice fly hit in the fourth to give the team a 4-0 lead. Both players put in a tremendous performance as they
built up the lead.
Bruce Chen had relative discomfort to hold back the Chicago White Sox offence as the hitters scored. Yamaico Navarro and Billy Butler had singles in the fifth for the Royals and Johnny Giavotella made it 4-3 by the end of the sixth inning.
A.J. Pierzynski homered in the seventh to make it 6-3 for the White Sox. After Eric Hosmer scored a single at centre for the Royals, both Paul Konerko and Pierzynski had homers that put the team in charge of the game with a 10-4 lead.
The Kansas City Royals’ offence then had no opportunity to open their bats while the White Sox pitchers rendered them ineffective. As Sergio Santos came to pitch the 9th inning, he gave up a run to Johnny Giavotella but sent the other hitters
packing to wrap up the game with an impressive 10-5 victory for the Chicago White Sox.
The Royals will be disappointed with their performance and will be looking to improve their efforts in their next match-up. The White Sox look to continue with this confidence building win and get some momentum for their next game.
