A.J. Price becomes the newest member of Washington Wizards – NBA News
The Washington Wizards have added A.J. Price to their back court arsenal, after they agreed on a one year deal with the former Indiana Pacers backup point guard.
Ben Standig at CSNWashington.com has reported the agreement, which will come as a relief to Price as it will give him a new start in a different team.
Price has so far played all three seasons of his NBA career with the Indiana Pacers, but failed to make any impact there. After Darren Collison got injured early last season, Price was expected to have more minutes, but he remained
a backup point guard for the team after George Hill impressed the management and became a regular started. He averaged 12.9 minutes per game last season, and was not offered a new contract this offseason.
Now that he is being picked up by the Wizards, Price has another opportunity to prove himself and his talent in a new setup. He will again be doing backup guard duties, as Wizards star guard John Wall will be consuming most of
the minutes. But there is no fixed player to back him up and Price could easily become the go-to backup guard for the Wizards if he is able to perform well.
He is good at ball handling and distribution, and can call plays well too, but the weakness is his shooting and range. Price shot 33.9% from the field and 29.5% from the distance last season, which means not many in the NBA fear
his shooting. He showed promise as a rookie but his numbers have fallen since then. Now that he is moving to a new team, Price will be looking forward to working with the coaching staff and making an impact in his new role.
The Wizards had hoped that Shelvin Mack would improve his game to take up the backup spot to Wall, but he had a mediocre summer league and the team isn’t convinced.
The Wizards reached out to Kirk Hinrich, John Lucas III and a list of other players before ending up with Price.
