A Labour Deal could be on the Cards, but Not Long Lasting -NHL Update
The National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association may be close to getting a deal done, but it might not be one that could last longer and up to expectations of most players and franchise owners.
It is reported by some sources that the two stakeholders may just sign something in order to get the puck dropped and begin the 2012-2013 regular season just so they do not lose out on it entirely, but many fear undergoing the process once again when the
time comes.
"When we talk about the course of negotiations, you run the risk that an initial offer that is extreme can kill a deal even before the talks really begin," Scott Rosner, a professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania said, according
to Detroit News. "It sounds as if, from an outside perspective, that was the effect throughout these NHL negotiations.”
"Is the takeaway that maybe if your first offer is not so draconian, you know, 'Hey, we learned from this negotiation to prevent future disputes …'

Insiders have termed there to be 48 games still playable if a deal is done in the upcoming days, which is not better than a full 82-game hockey year, but much better than not having any game at all, something witnesses can testify to who were watching the 2004-2005
lockout.
Players are frustrated and that is just growing around the league as both stakeholders failed to make any progress even after bringing in third part mediators to help them negotiate a new labour deal. There are still many aspects that have widened the gap
between the two and will continue to do so as there seems to be a fresh deadlock in play now.
It is hard for some to see a quick deal like the one reported above anytime soon as the league is not willing to kick off a season unless a long term deal comes into force, but hopefully, something may just happen miraculously for fans, who are yearning
to see any form of major league hockey.
Updates should be expected in the next couple of days.
