A-League Recap: Brisbane Roar vs. Central Coast Mariners ends in a 3-3 draw
Brisbane Roar stretched their amazing run of unbeaten games to 21 as they held Central Coast Mariners to a 3-3 draw in an entertaining game at the Central Coast Stadium.
The match turned out to be a nail-biting affair as Thomas Broich, Erik Paartalu and James Meyer scored for Brisbane Roar and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patricio-Perez-c29246 and Matt Simon found the net for the home team.
The score board came alive in the 23rd minute, when Roar midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Erik-Paartalu-c12765 converted a header into a goal through a set piece. The Mariners could have equalized the score in the 32nd minute through Simon, when he found a cross
by Josh Rose, but, much to the frustration of the home fans, replays suggested that his header was actually saved by Matthew Smith.
However, only 5 minutes later, the Mariners levelled the score as Kwanski, this season’s top scorer for the Mariners, slotted home his 9th goal of the current campaign. Later, Perez almost put the home side in the lead for the first time in the
match, but his ball couldn't make it to the net.
The Mariners started the 2nd half very strongly and created many chances. They were rewarded with a goal; Simon made a well-timed run in the penalty area and found the net for the second goal for the home side. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Oliver-Bozanic-c28481 almost made the scoreline
3-1 for the home side, but his shot agonizingly shaved the post and went out of the line for a goal kick. Spectacular coordination between Bozanic and Simon and a great attempt by the former almost gave Mariners another goal, but Roar keeper, Theoklitos denied
them with a great save.
With only 30 minutes left in the game, the visitors shifted gears and, after some sloppy play from the Mariners, gained possession. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Broich-c34936 pounced on the opportunity to net in the equalizer.
The game entered an exciting final phase when Rose was brought down by Roar defender, Milan Susak, and was sent off after receiving his 2nd yellow card of the game, as the referee called for a penalty kick. Perez stepped up to take the penalty
for Mariners and easily converted it to give his side the lead. But the home side couldn’t hold on to their lead, and Brisbane substitute, James Meyer levelled the game with a stunning strike from almost 25 yards out in the 79th minute.
But both the sides were aiming for three points and weren't ready to settle for a draw. Theoklitos cleared a shot from Simon in the dying moments of the game after Kosta Barbarouses did the same at the other end, and the game ended with the score board reading
3-3.
Ange Postecoglou was full of praise for his side after they showed their tenacity in keeping the dangerous Mariners side at bay in the last moments. After the match, he said that he was very proud of his team.
He admitted, however, that his side was a bit empty and they were stretched to the limit by the Coastal Mariners throughout the whole 90 minutes.
The recent floods in Queensland and Brisbane have affected the A-League participants strongly and the Brisbane coach admitted that his players were affected by the sad turn of events in the North of Australia and it reflected in their overall game.
Graham Arnold, coach of the Coastal Mariners, expressed that he wanted a win but was satisfied by his team's performances as they were up against the best side in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Australia-c746.
