A-League: Sydney FC 2-1 Newcastle Jets – Match Analysis
It was a much anticipated game in the A-League that was won by Sydney FC. In the process, they reached the upper part of the table as they defeated Newcastle 2-1.
Newcastle had been in top-notch form this season and recently were soaring to new heights. However, Sydney FC came up with an impressive game as they ended their own losing streak. For the past 5 matches, Sydney FC had seen nothing
but defeat; therefore, this victory will be very welcome and provide as a morale boost for them.
Sydney FC, however, is out of the finals so they are merely playing to improve their form now. This will also help them climb up the ladder of the A-League and thwart North Queensland to enter into the 10th place.
On the other hand, Newcastle Jets have been severely harmed by this defeated as this has left them in the 8th place. Jets’ dream of entering the top 6 is in greater peril now and they will have to step up their performance
if they want to reach the finals.
It was Japanese midfielder Hirofumi Moriyasu who drew first blood. Moriyasu claimed their first goal in the past 5 matches before the Brazilian forward Bruno Cazarine doubled the lead. The guests were dominating play but substituted
striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Labinot-Haliti-c21576 handed his team a consolation goal.
The hosts had to deal with more than their fair share of bad luck. Early in the match http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ljubo-Milicevic-c22363 was forced off the pitch after he injured his leg. This setback in the first half caused Italian defender Marcello Fiorentini
to replace him.
Sydney FC were dominant in the match as they had their first chance to score a goal in the 21st minute with the help of Brazilian Cazarine but the ball didn’t travel into the net.
It was a former player of Jets, Nicky Carle, who inspired his team in the 35th
minute via a stunning long-ranged shot but Newcastle Jets shot-stopper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ben-Kennedy-c7451 was up to the task.
Later Moriyasu came up with his own shining moment when he broke the hosts’ defence. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scott-Jamieson-c32664 provided the unmarked player with a decent cross from a corner and Moriyasu made no mistake in shooting the ball into the bottom
left corner.
Just a minute before the whistle for the break, Cazarine put another one on the board. He caught on the advantage when a lethargic Kennedy failed in delivering a proper back-pass. All that was need of Cazarine was to provide his
team with a neat finish and he did just that hence Sydney went back to their locker rooms being two nil up.
In the 62nd minute, Jets manager Branko Culina made two substitutions. He replaced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sasho-Petrovski-c32603. This was a tactical change to increase his team’s offensive strength,
and therefore the whole team formation also changed which stunned Sydney FC for a bit.
The strategy seemed to have paid off as just moments later Haliti and Ruban Zadkovic showed amazing chemistry to score a goal during the 65th minute.
The substitutes threatened to score another goal minutes later but the equalizer was denied because Petrovski’s header found the woodwork.
Haliti seemed to be on fire as in the later minutes he fired up another shot on goal and this one just went grazing past the far post.
In the 76th minute, Sydney FC brought in their new Finnish player Juho Makela, but the player who has just started featuring for the club didn’t impress much.
A brawl was about to break out later in the game because of which Griffiths was slapped with a yellow card but that was before http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sebastian-Ryall-c32769 were booked.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sydney-FC-c40668 manager Vitezslav Lavicka was exuberant over his team’s performance. He praised his players and stated, “The difference today was we started the game very well and we played the first half actively. We put the opposition
under pressure; we created a few chances and scored two goals.”
He gave all credit to his players stating that it was their hard work that paid off in the end: “I think our current situation is not optimal of course but I have to give full credit for the Sydney FC players tonight because they
showed character on the pitch.”
He was also optimistic about the future, stating: “It's only a small step ahead for us but it's an important step.”
On the other hand, Culina was deeply disheartened by his team’s show. He blamed the poor run on “a few issues off the park”, which obviously alluded to the loss of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Francis-c13946 Jeffers and Milicevic announcing that he’s leaving the
club at the end of the season.
He added, “I just don't think the focus was quite there. We came up against the number one Brisbane, the number two Adelaide, the Central Coast and the Gold Coast and at least get a point and then to come up against the bottom
team and to come away with nothing is disappointing.”
