A-League preview, Melbourne Heart vs Gold Coast United
Melbourne Heart will be looking to keep their dream alive of finishing the season in the top 6 and will be expecting to pick up their first ever win against Gold Coast United.
The current season is Heart’s debut season in the Hyundai A-League and they will be hoping to grab another 3 points and will also want to extract revenge on Gold Coast United. The last time the two sides met, Gold Coast beat the home team 3-0 at Skilled
Park.
Although, the score line seems like a thrashing but it wasn’t so. Heart spent most of the 90 matches creating chance after chance and it left the Heart faithful wondering how the score line represented something so different.
It was only because Melbourne were very wasteful in front of goal and they later found out that they were up against a team that is widely considered as one of the best counter attacking teams in the league.
Aloisi, Thompson and Sibon failed the easiest opportunities and they were made to pay for their wastefulness when Bas van den Brink opened the scoring for Gold Coast United before Jason Culina’s brace completed a 3-0 rout.
The Hearts will be hopeful to not only register their first win but also their first ever goal against the team from Queensland.
Last October, Gold Cost United hosted the Hyundai A-League debutants and found Melbourne Heart a very good attacking side. Only some last ditch and resolute defending saved the home teams’ blushes as they held the Hearts to a 0-0 draw and were very lucky
indeed to get a point.
Today’s match will be a great opportunity for Melbourne Heart to secure their first ever win against the Queensland side. United have been in very indifferent form of late as in the last away game they lost to Sydney F.C 2-0 and then played a dull 0-0 draw
against Perth Glory.
But recently, they held league leaders Brisbane Roar to a 2-2 draw and will be hoping to improve on the great draw. Gold Coast United will be welcoming the return of Kiwi international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Shane-Smeltz-c33253 and will definitely ask questions from the Melbourne defensive
line.
Hearts will be playing this game after 5 days and will be relying on John Aloisi and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerald-Sibon-c14658 to secure another win for the Melbourne side. The game is bound to be an interesting affair as the league’s best attacking and the league’s best counter-attacking
sides will face-off and will definitely go for nothing less than 3 points as both sides are competing for a top 6 finish.
The question is that will the Hearts team find enough in them to beat a side that has become a thorn in their way ever since this season started or will they succumb to the counter-attacking prowess of the Gold Coast United side.
