Mid Life Rose

A rose lives upon my shoulder

bright pink, crimson, and vine of green

created by Tattoo Lou's parlor

a masterpiece for all to see

Valentine's day back in '98

my daughter reached majority

I was looking for an escape

from upcoming senility

Together we had a great idea

become inked for exhibition

dear husband had hysteria

exclaiming where's your inhibition

It's 10 years now from conception

people look at me with wonder

  1. Interesting poem, but for me tatoos, are tabu.

Little ones may be okay, if that is someones choice.

But so called body art, complete, well I've said enough.

  2. Applause, applause, applause!

Don't think I will get one though

    Your story, wonderfully told

    and yes you do indeed

    need matching bookends!

A great morning chuckle this brought.  My compliments on the poem and the guts to get the tattoo!  A tattoo parlor once offered me $1800 worth of tattoos for neon work.  I took the cash!

  3. Very enjoyable.  I have a mid-life rose on the back of my shoulder in honor of my mother.  I wish we could have done it together.

Now, I want tats of my boys birth foot prints, but I don't know where to put them or if it will ever happen.  Fantastic poem.

You're never too old, Jill :)

  4. I love this.   Especially as it brings back memories of my daughter and I going to the Tattoo parlour a few years back.

I chose my tattoo (a lizard to go on my thigh) and she chose hers.  We waited patiently, and then when our turn came he said 'Sorry, that's all for to-day, folks'......I never did get that tattoo, and now perhaps I'm too old (64)

(put a question mark after inhibition)

  5. This is humorous but so very real.  It's a charming chapter in the family story, in the story of your personal growth.  I have always wanted to get a small tattoo, but never worked up the nerve. I will have to live that vicariously through you, especially if you really get another.  I also love the title...it's just perfect. Thank you.

  6. Very nice. I wish I had your talent... the talent of everybody here. But I can only sit back and marvel.

  7. Time for adventure, for a new outlook on life and a new future. This poem may be lighthearted, but it carries a message: it is never too late to begin again.

  8. Take a picture, post it on writer's unleashed, I wanna see it.  I love roses.  Hate tatoos most of the time, but for an artistic rose, I would change my mind.

  9. I may have to get a tatoo of a thoat...thanks for the idea, Marguerite.  My kids will flip out!
