  1. I think it would help beacuse you get some college experience before dealing with college and a new country. A&M also has some programs that you can spend a semester abroad.

  2. It would certainly help to at least complete the general studies requirements at Texas A&M then you have a better chance of going straight to a university and starting your bachelor's degree in the U.K. In stead of having to complete A'levels at college level.

While the above is not applicable to all universities it is for some, your SAT scores will also need to be evaluated by the your chosen school.

I know from experience. I came from the U.K. to the U.S having completed my A-levels and found that my A-levels would only count for 37 credits of my general studies requirements and the remaining classes I took to complete it at UCD were remedial to say the least compared to the A-levels in the U.K. and I often found myself in classes were the students struggled with the correct formatting of papers and the construction of English sentences to the level of their British counterparts.

I would also recommend taking the general studies at Texas A&M because this will get you used to the college life and the academics of it all, it is much different from what you have done previously in high school and it would be a waste of money to go to the U.K. and find that you are struggling, because don't forget the people in the U.K. would have already done two-years of higher-education before you even get there. Since U.K. students graduate from high school at 16 and then spend the next two years completing their A-levels.

You will already be two years behind them academically and that is a gulf of education missed unless you complete the general studies requirements in the U.S. to bring you up to speed.
