A Menapause Dilemma?

Why is it we get heavier after menapause? There seems to be an epidemic of over 50 ladies with bulging tummies and thicker waists after menapause. Seems like the majority of us morph into pillsbury doughboys except for a few thin ones. I tend to eat less and I know its from more than eating- HELP! What can I do?

  1. it's mostly due to hormonal changes, which will affect your metabolism. i'm not an expert on the subject, but i'm sure the other replies here can help you.

  2. the metabolism slows. And cutting back on calories too much can slow it even more. Best bet is to build muscle mass

  3. Sadly, it's all part of the wonderful hormone roller coaster that we all ride.

As you age, your metabolism slows down, and your hormones taper off, and both of these things tend to contribute to weight gain and an increase in a different hormone called cortisol (which has been directly linked to the packing on of fat in the abdominal, hip, butt and thigh areas).

It's just a thing that happens.  More gym time, less relaxation time.  *sigh*
