I went to a Mexican restaurant

It is owned by Mexicans, they serve Mexican food and the waiters even speak Spanish.

The restaurant atmosphere is also very similar to Mexico

However when I pay the Bill they refuse to accept Mexican currency.

Why did they do this?

Can they be sued? If so, under what law?

  1. Because your in the USA not Mexico.

  2. Uh last time I checked this was AMERICA not MEXICO......get a clue....we dont accept pesos here

Like usual your looking to file a frivolous lawsuit in an attempt to get something for free

go back to your own country

  3. Hum, the restaurant is IN the US, right?

When you go to a Japanese restaurant in the US, do you pay in yen? So everytime you try ethnic cuisine, do you get the appropriate currency according to the type of restaurant? Silly me, I thought that the common practice was to pay in the LEGAL, local currency. In the United States, I pay US dollars; in Canada, Canadian dollars; in Hong Kong, HKD; etc. etc.

  4. Do you think a restaurant in Mexico with English speaking waitresses serving American style food would accept dollars?

    Oh wait...

    No lawsuit.

  5. Sure, as long as you sue them in pesos.

  6. Ummm... because you are in AMERICA!!!  You shouldn't even try that, if you are going to be here... get your currency exchanged.  They did nothing wrong, you did.

  7. LOL Perhaps this is because this is AMERICA and not Mexico.

  8. Almost all U.S. businesses do not accept other countries currency. I live in Cali in a small Hispanic town and NONE of them take Mexican Money. Next time try to get some American Dollars. You could sue for this, but I'd really like to meet the Lawyer that would take it on.

  9. They can accept whatever currency they choose in ADDITION to the currency which is STANDARD in the country they are located in.  Therefore, in US, US currency, however, if they CHOOSE to accept PECOS, that is up to them. But since most people in US only have US currency, that is why they only accept US currency.  No they cannot be sued........Please learn to follow the rules, quit creating upheaval.

  10. this is not mexico...so unless you exchange it for american bills you'll have a hard time eating here
