  1. on vista go to network on contral panal den go to network and sharing centre turn on all the sharing files

  2. You're going to have to do some research; it's a complicated process.

You need to set up a local network that includes both computers.  If you have a crossover cable (not an ethernet cable) you can connect the two computers directly thru their ethernet ports.  Otherwise you need a router.

Both computers must have the same workgroup name.

XP: Control Panel, System, Computer Name

Vista: Control Panel, System and Maintenance, System, change workgroup name

You must load Link Layer Topology Discovery  (LLTD) on the xp computer or the vista machine won't be able to see it.  You can download this free from microsoft.

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...

    Vista Network and Sharing Center

    Network should be private.

Enable file sharing, public folder sharing, printer sharing, and turn off password protected sharing.  Or whatever makes sense given what you want to do.

    XP Control Panel

    Folder Options, View

    Turn on simple file sharing

Printers and Faxes, share a printer

    Share a folder, Vista

Right click folder, choose Share, select Guest or Everyone and whatever else you want

    Share a folder, XP

Right click folder, choose Sharing and Security.

Then choose whatever properties you want.

After rebooting, you should theoretically be able to share.  Look at Windows Explorer, Network Places, Entire Network and look for your workgroup.  See if both computers show up.  Sometimes it takes a while on Vista.
