  1. Well, I've never heard of such a thing, but I'd be all for it!  I think the reason most kids don't like reading is because they aren't very good at it.  When it's a struggle to sound out the words, that's all you can focus on... and you don't get any enjoyment out of the story.  When reading comes easily and effortlessly, you can actually focus on the meaning of what you're reading.  But it takes practice to get to that point... and if you don't practice, reading will remain a chore.


  2. It's not a law.  Most schools require students to read a certain amount each day and I agree with it.
