A Newcastle United Preview for 2011/12 Season in the English Premier League
Newcastle United were a mix-bag in the recently concluded season of English Premier League. They had their fair share of highs and lows. They finished twelfth on the table which by far is respectable enough for any newly promoted team. The Toons had their
consolation in the fact that they were only three points behind Fulham, who were eighth on the final group standing.
If Newcastle manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew, can influence some quality signups for the upcoming season, Newcastle have all the likelihood of putting up a better show in 2011/12 edition of the English Premier League. The team also has an imperative task to retain Joey
Barton and Jose Enrique. Losing them will affect their stability and diminish any chances of qualifying for the Europe in the following season.
The Magpies were successful in performing above than was expected of them. But the uncertainty in the transfer window this summer means that one cannot exactly predict how their outing will be next time around. One thing that we can be certain of is their
financial stability. However it may be, the fans have all the rights to be optimistic.
The fans have prioritised the winning of a trophy in the coming season on the very top. Finishing above their archrivals Sunderland would be like the icing on the cake. In the 2010/11 season, they came ever so close of doing that, but a defeat to West Brom
certainly did not help their cause. If Sunderland lose some key players and Newcastle United are successful in strengthening their squad, then the Toons are almost certain to finish above the Mackems. Their best retention will be Joey Barton, who was their
most consistent performer last season and has remarkably come of age.
Newcastle United have made the highest bid, until now, for the much acclaimed Ivorian, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gervinho-c14755. Should they manage to sign him, it would be a big boost to the squad and add the much needed pace to a relatively slower front line. His style of play will complement
the likes of Cheikh Tiote and former Lille colleague, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, as both clubs have shown interest in Gervinho. Whatever the turnout of the bids may be, the bid for Gervinho sends out a
positive sign to the fans; Boss Mike Ashley is keen on pushing the football club forward.
The astute and shrewd business man owner of the club has to make sure that he is not involved in another controversy. The firing of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Hughton and abolishing St. James’ Park’s Level 7 singing area have definitely not earned him any accolades from the
fans. But to set the record straight, Ashley and his board have chalked up a five-year plan to have their club break-even. For the plan to be successful, Ashley wants the Toons to be able to finish in top ten every season. That is a more realistic goal as
one cannot expect them to take the cup (or qualify for Europe) with all that has been happening in the transfer window this summer. Most importantly, he has to refrain from making any further PR errors.
The Toon Army is hopeful for sure, but they certainly do not expect miracles either. Things just need to click right from Ashley right down to the team. The squad needs to be bolstered so they can start to improve gradually. Ashley needs to stick to his
five-year plan. The plan will go a long way in bringing stability, growth and progress to the club, both in financial terms and in their performance.
