A Nielsen's rep said if we let them install a "ratings box" to our TV, we get $100/ month. is this for real?

The lady rep said they will install a "ratings box" to our TV and someone will come every month to check on what shows we watched. For each such visit, we get $100. is this for real or a scam? any tips on where I can get more info about this?

  1. Nielsen is not a scam.  They do put boxes on TV to measure viewing.  

    I am though a bit concerned that the person who contacted you was not from Nielsen -- this may have been a scam designed to get into your house.  There are a few things in your description that differ from how Nielsen works.

    Do some homework.  Get her business card and call the number.  Verify that it's Nielsen you are talking to.  I wish I could be a Nielsen home but I'm in the business so never could be.  I think it would be cool  -- just make sure it is really Nielsen who wants to come into your home.
