The prompt of the essay is " A uniform religious identity is beneficial to a society" so I have to either be in favor of the prompt or against it. I am totally against it because I believe everyone should have the right to choose their own religion. But anyways I need HELP finding a very good introduction for the essay but I just can't think of one, so please HELP, the essay is due on Tuesday September 2, 2008.

  1. Just talk about what you think. The proper structure of an intro is an upside down triangle, starting from general information going to your theses at the end. Talk about first, how all countries are different from each other or something like that.

  2. The easiest way to do this is to think about WHY you are against it. Remember, too, that the prompt is about whether or not it's beneficial to SOCIETY.

So, the cliche I was always taught in school for a basic essay format is to "tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them, and then tell them what you told them."

If you have, "I am against it because A, B, and C," then your thesis sentence can be the last sentence of your intro paragraph. Start out generally, then get more specific, ending with your thesis statement. You can start the paragraph with statements about religious identity or what is a uniform religious identity, etc. Remember, an intro is just as it says: you are INTRODUCING your topic, giving basic and general info, and introducing your these statement.

I will tell you, too, that I always found it easier to write the intro after I wrote the body of the paper/essay. Once the thinking part is done, the writing part is easier.
