Question:

A Part of my Gums is Really Red and Really Swollen?

About an hour ago, I felt a pain between my teeth. I looked in the mirror and there it was. The part of my gums between my canine tooth and my incisor was swollen and red. It was bleeding quite a bit, and was pretty swollen. The bleeding stopped, but it is still pretty swollen. I have gingivitis and sometimes my gums swell, but they have never swollen this much. Any help?

  1. you need to go to the dentist fast.  You have an infection.

  2. If your gums are swollen, you probably have more than gingivitis.

You definitely need to see your dentist ASAP.  If you have swelling, you likely have an infection of some sort.  It may be caused by plaque/calculus that has built up over time (if you haven't had your teeth cleaned in awhile), you may have gotten food stuck under your gum (like a popcorn husk), or you may have a problem with one of the nearby teeth.

Infections from teeth normally occur around the roots of the teeth, which are under the gum, which gives the appearance of a gum problem (when it is a tooth problem).

In any case, you need to see your dentist.  Any suggestion such as salt water rinses, etc, will only be a temporary solution.  Until the source is treated, the problem will return.

  3. Gums that are swollen can be treated.  If you have a case of swollen gums that is due to inflammation, taking good care of the teeth and gums through proper and timely brushing, as well as, the use of natural oral care product can help reduce the swelling.  Dental professional help is required to remove the deposits which are firmly stuck to the teeth if there is a large collection plaque or food debris.  If swollen gums is due to certain medications, stopping the intake of the drug will automatically reduce the swelling.  In case of swelling due to general illness correction of the health problem usually results in an improvement.  For swollen gums that are caused by tumor, then the only answer to it is surgical removal.
