Is there a way of sending an email from a pretend email address? For example a prank from a friends hotmail - showing their email address as the sender. Im not sure whether its legal or not.. but im sure ive done it before - i sent myself an email to test it, but never used the site again.

Thanks all.

  1. Yep, but since you've used it before (mmm hmm), there should be no problem in you remembering how to do it!

  2. There was an old website; www.manicmail.net, that used to allow you to send an email and set the from address yourself.

  3. Yes it is possible and very easy to do. In fact I do it all the time.  No it is not illegal.  So have fun sending spoofed emails.

PS I made a small program that sends fake (spoofed) emails.  Email me at (pece_13_n0w@yahoo.com) and I will send you a copy.  I will also send you the comp code in both emails so nobody tries spoofing the email (that is supposedly from me) and sending you a virus.

    Regards,

  4. Yes it possible. I could send you a mail from "santa@thenorthpole.com" if I wanted to and you would have a hard time telling that it was fake. SMTP was not designed with any authentication methods so it is very easy do this. I don't think you will get in any trouble unless you are playing some serious pranks.
