Question:

A Q about AVG Anti-virus Free (please read on)...?

I have updates on automatic scheduling and today I received an error that a ".bin file" was missing, so the download could not not complete. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, also choosing the "repair missing components" option on download, but nothing is working. The software loads, but when I try and update the product, I get the same error message: ".bin file missing".

Anyone know what is going on or how I can remedy this error? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated :-) :-).

  1. www.avast.com

    Use a good free anti-virus.

  2. "Currently the update for AVG Free v8 is corrupted... you will have to wait for AVG Technologies to address the issue with the update."

Listed in AVG's forum.  Just wait until they correct the problem, you aren't the only user experiencing this issue.

If you'd like to update your software before they address it, here are the steps to correct it:

1 - Start up AVG, click Update Now.

2 - The list of updates is shown in Pop up, click on the more information link.  A list of updates will be shown.

3 - Click on and save all updates in a file except the last one - http:// downloadfree.avg.com/update/ u7iavi1616oo.bin

Because this is causing the problem.

4 - Cancel the update and instead click on Tools -> Update From Directory and go to the file where you saved the updates.  Install these and AVG should be working properly again.

    Hope this helps.

Step one: fire up AVG and click on Update Now.

Step two: when the list of updates is shown in the popup window, click on the link to tell you more. This will take you to a list of the updates you're trying to, well, update.

Step three: click on and save to your computer the all updates except the last one - http://downloadfree.avg.com/update/u7iav... - because it isn't there.

    Step four: cancel the update.

Step five: instead click on Tools->Update from Directory and browse to wherever you downloaded the file.

    It should work from there.
