So i currently work at a preschool full time with my associate teaching permit. to get the masters permit it says i need to take the practicum. The practicum classes are working at the child dev. center at the school during my work hours. Does anyone know if working at preschool can count for that?

  1. I herad that it depends on the school. A friend of mine just had to change grade levels and they told her that it was okay to stay at the same place.

  2. Depends on your state. In NY you can get a degree in Early childhood and you can teach up to 2nd grade. You need to student teach in at least one elementary grade, and kindergarten will count. Not all colleges let you do your practicum where you work because you need to work under a licensed  teacher. Others are more flexible. check around

  3. It depends on the state and program. Your best bet would be to ask the coordinator or some other person within your department.  If you are seeking your Masters Permit to teach Preschool, seem like it should be fine and just have someone come in to observe you.  In NC, one of my co-workers was required to take the "practicum" and her mentor/advisor just came and observed her within her own classroom.
