I live in Michigan. Who ultimately decides whether or not you collect it??? Does your former employer have a say in it, or is it entirely up to the State???

  1. You file, the state notifies your employer and gives them a chance to contest.  If they contest, a state employee will look at their reason for contesting, and make the decision.
