  1. depends you would have to take a test

  2. Yes you could. Here is why. A January birth date creates an interesting problem because your birth month is 1 month younger than the average student. Depending on your mental and physical capabilities at the time kindergarten should begin, your parents may decide to not start you at that time. They could have decided to start you 6 months later. This is a relatively insignificant decision, because when you start you will probably be just 3-4 months older than the average 8th grader. Most current 8th graders are born in mid '93.

  3. yes you could but just barely. the earliest you can be born to be in the correct bracket for 8th grade (if u have never been held back)is january 1 1993. anything before this is nineth grade. your birthdate is only 15 days after this. so technically yes you can be in 8th grade w/o being held back.

however most people born in jan-march '93 are in 9th

  4. you are actually old enough to be in 9th grade now, but you should get tested before you enter public school.

  5. I think you have to take a test before anyone can decide what grade you'll be placed in.  If you were taught well, then I see no reason why you could not be placed in the 8th grade at your age.

  6. its very possible hun

  7. Usually you would be tested then placed in a grade that is appropriate for you education level.

  8. if u are born in the following year technically these are the grades u are in (w/o being held back). the avg person is prolly born in the middle to late part of the yr.

    1994- 7th

    1993- 8th

    1989- 12th

  9. Hello,

First, I am a schoolteacher for my credentials. To answer your question yes, you could. A '93 birth year signifies an 8th grader. However, if you are academically capable, and age is the issue you may want to consider starting in 9th grade. The difference between your age and your classmates would be smaller. Having a birthdate towards the very end of the year or very start of the year always creates the problem with either being too young or too old. In my 9th grade classes, by now 90% of the students are 15, many are 15 and a half. Obviously you arent even 15 yet; however, you almost are. You  wouldn't be the very youngest in your 9th grade classes, but you probably would be the oldest (with the exception of students who have been held back) in your 8th grade classes.

    Hope this helps!

  10. they would ask you which grade you last finished and they may want you to be tested

  11. No, you would be in 9th grade. I started kindergarden when I was 5 and my birthday is 24 days after yours and I am in 9th grade. Never was held back or skipped a grade.

  12. Daniel, I work in the public schools and homeschool my 10th grade son.  We, at the public school, have students in the 11th and 12th grades who do not speak English.   It would be unproductive to test these students and put them in qualifying grade level.

If you are serious about going to public school, go to the principal of your local high school.  Ask for a tour of the school.  Talk to the guidance counselors to get you on the track that you require for your goals; i.e.  college, career, community college, etc.  If they request a placement test, and you prefer not to take the test, ask them about provisions for non-English speaking students.

You should not have any problem entering for 2nd semester as a 9th grader.

  13. you are young enough. HOWEVER i think you are missing the point. THE SCORES THAT YOU GET ON YOUR PLACEMENT TEST WILL DECIDE WHAT GRADE YOU ARE IN, NOT YOUR DATE OF BIRTH ITSELF. then as a result of your scores it will decided if u fall into 8th or 9th. this is why you see 8th graders born '94 and/or '92. for sports the date of birth itself decides the grade, however you will not get into 8th grade by date of birth only.

  14. I agree, according to your age, you should be in 9th grade. You placement in public schools depends on several things:

    age

what grade you are currently studying

performance on any required placement testing (some states require it, others don't)

    local homeschooling laws.

In some states, parent generated transcripts are not accepted and you would have to test for placement. Some areas give you the option to place a grade behind (in your case 8th) without testing.

Some states do not have this.

You will need to check with the admissions policies for homeschool students for your local ISD and go from there.
