A Question about the Navy...?

Do you have to pass the ASVAB to get into the navy? Or will they just let you sign up even though you didn't pass it?

I was just wondering because my parents wanted to get my sister in the Navy but she's about 30 or more points off the score she needs. ASVAB.

There are no waivers for the minimum asvab score. She can retest in 30 days. She cannot join without a passing score.

As I understand the ASVAB it is for determining apptitude for specific military carreers. As long as she is a High School Graduate, (their are acceptions to that for certain reserve programs), is drug free and can pass the physical she should be able to enlist. The Navy will probably administer their own apptitude test unless they already have. She should visit the local recruiting office.

Your parents want your sister to join, but does she want to be in the Navy? The Navy is a wonderful organization for someone that wants to be there. It can destroy the people that do not want to be there.

She needs a certain score to obtain certain jobs in the Navy, or any branch for that matter.  She should be able to retake the ASVAB though and potentially score higher.

the minimum score for a HS diploma is 35.   the minimum score with just a GED is 65.    add 15 100 level college credits( basically 5 classes/one semester) to the GED and you only need a 35 on the ASVAB

Yes you have to pass the ASVAB. The Navy has the highest low score of all the branches.  The branch with the lowest low score is the Army.

You have to pass certain exams to get into the Navy that includes the physical and the  battery of written tests which they call the ASVAB now.

If you don't pass that you can't get in you end up a Category 4 and unless you can bring up your grades and the school you want has an opening she won't get into the Navy, have her check the other services she won't have to take the tests over she can hand carry what she has to the other recruiters.
