A Question for CONSERVS. & REPUBS about FAMILY VALUES?

Question

Why is it that republican and religious and secular conservatives continue make family values an election issue. The issue of family values and morality was ONE of the hallmark reasons for the Republican take-over of congress and it was also used as a theme during Bush’s first run for office.

Read the list of “hypocrites” below and respond whether or not you think that family values was/is a “SMOKE SCREEN” to win favor and votes

POPULAR SCANDALS

1. Senator Larry Craig, recently pleaded guilty to lued homosexual acts in an Airport. He still defiantly claims that he is not g*y.

2. Mark Foley, had phone s*x and indecent conversations with male pages.

3. George W. Bush, Republican president, accused in a criminal complaint and lawsuit of raping Margie Schoedinger, who later committed suicide. Accused by Tammy Phillips, a former stripper quoted in the National Enquirer in 2000 saying she had an affair with Bush that had ended in 1999

4. Senator David Vitter (R-La) who ran a hard-core platform on traditional family values, name was found on a Madams list. He told his constituents that it was a “private issue” and to leave him alone.

5. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican governor, had s*x with a 16 year old when he was 28.

6. Joe Scarborough, former Republican Congressman, currently a conservative talk show host. Resigned his congressional seat abruptly to spend more time with his family, amidst allegations of an affair. His intern, Lori Klausutis, was soon after found dead in his office. The medical examiner, who had his license revoked in Missouri for falsifying information in an autopsy report, and suspended in Florida for six years, ruled the case an accident, after giving conflicting information about her injuries. He said he lied about them because "The last thing we wanted was 40 questions about a head injury."

7. John E. Peterson, Congressman (R-Pa), accused of sexual harassment and creation of a hostile work environment by six women. Peterson has refused to admit a crime, saying only "I may have been an excessive hugger."

8. Henry Hyde, Judge who oversaw Clinton's impeachment proceedings, prominent opponent of reproductive rights, who had an extramarital affair with a woman who was married and had three children, during the course of which she and her husband were divorced.

9. Newt Gingrich, married three times. Gingrich campaign worker Anne Manning admitted that she gave Newt oral s*x while he was still married to his first wife. Informed one wife he was filing for divorce while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer treatments

10. Richard A. Dasen Sr., Republican benefactor of conservative Christian groups, convicted of sexual abuse of children, promotion of prostitution and several counts of solicitation, enough to add up to a sentence of 126 years in prison

Conservative Personalities and Figure Scandals

1. Paul Crouch Televangelist, Former President of Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN). Paid $425,000 in hush money in an attempt to cover up a g*y affair.

2. Ted Haggard, popular conservative pastor who advised Bush on Family Values issues was outed by a male prostitute who also alleged that he gave Haggard drugs.

3. Rush Limbaugh, triple-divorcee

4. Bill O'Reilly Right-wing conservative talk show host on Fox News, sued for sexual harassment by his producer.

5. Dr. Laura Schlessinger, right wing conservative radio host. Promotes family values, estranged from her mother, opposes birth control, has had her tubes tied, espouses saving oneself for marriage, admits to having had s*x before she was married, opposes adultery, has committed adultery while she was married, and has slept with a married man, opposes divorce, is divorced and remarried, has posed for nude photos which are available online.

There are many, many, many more. I know that I am going to be accused of being repub-coserv-basher. I am not, I know the democrats have just as many scandals if not more. However, I think that the whole PLATFORM OF CONSERVATIVE FAMILY VALUES IS A DISINGENIOUS strategy to rally votes and to swing elections. THIS LIST DEMONSTRATES THE FACT THAT NO ONE PRACTICES WHAT THEY PREACH!!!

I also believe that we are all human and everyone makes mistakes, but it is VERY HYPOCRITICAL to impose ideas that these “cultural-icons” don’t keep!

1 Craig resigned,that behavior is ok for a democrate but not for us.  2. Ditto for Mark Foley.  The left wing press sat on the story until just befor the elections.  Was it Garys Studds , the democrate who had s*x with an underage boy and was of course reelected? Foley only sent Emails.    3. Are you going to quote the National Enquirer?  I remember one of their headlines: Woman raped by space alien-----she is pregnant! We do have an ex president that was accused of rape.  The press sat on that story until he was elected to his second term. In fact one network interviewed her befor the election but did not air it until Clinton was reelected.

I think Democrats are just as much in favor of family values as Republicans.  Just because Democrats are a little more tolerant of some social issues does not make them against family values.

You are correct.  We should all, Dems and Repubs, promote non family values.  Ever here of the phrase, "throw the baby out with the bath water"?

We should promote non marriage, except for g**s.  And for those stupid married people we should promote adultery.

We should allow our teenage children to have sleep overs with their boy and girl friends.  It's all good.

If you are not perfect you cannot say anything about morality?

Yes, it is a very real issue and the fact that some people are caught in compromising positions only strengthens the need for them. To quit trying to be decent people just because we don't always succeed would be stupid. Do you always shoot under par? Should you stop trying because you come up short sometimes?

Well, I think you missed a few, The two senators from LA. The one left he was the speaker of the house and this other senator took his place and he was charge with being with prostitutes.   But that's neither here nor there its the going out and saying they are for moral values.  There lives sure don't show it.  And paying the mega churches to preach that c**p some are getting over a million dollars a year talking about faith base.  The GOP is a very very sick party a least the people who are running it.  They have no morals at all.

better platforms could be used  that one is a has been idea. wasting energy while preaching  envoronmental conservation is another possible thing to call everyone on. here is a better platform  Environmental Economy Company. expansion of protection of environment to making a profit on since people very reluctant to do anthing except mock or ignore people.

Even the mainstream media concede that the Republicans achieved control of both Houses of the Congress in the election of 1994 with their trumpeting of the "Contract With America". I reviewed that document. Can't find one word about "family values".

BTW, I'm not a Republican. In fact I left the party in 1998 because I had difficulty buying the agenda the Christian Falange was trying to impose on the party. But, in all fairness, the GOP didn't get to their  control of the 95th Congress on the issue of "family values"

There's just as many, and probably more on the left side of the aisle. Did you forget about Gerry Studds having s*x with an underaged Congressional Page or the g*y prostitution ring run out of barney frank's Washington apartment? The difference is, when this stuff comes out on the right, the accused gets referred to an investigative panel. When it comes out on the left, they rally around the offender and make excuses for them.

You make a good point but I'm not really sure there is less morality or "family values" on the GOP side.  It seems to me that the press jumps on such stories about the GOP exactly because of the perceived hypocrisy.  

After all, the Dems have an openly g*y Representative from MA.  But it's no big story because neither he nor the party spouts off about "family values" all the time.  That really does not seem to excite the cable news viewers.

I don't vote republican because of "family values." This is an issue I could really care less about. I tend to vote republican because they are less socialistic than democrats are. And i tend to hold my nose while I'm doing it.
