Hello there this is a track question..well last spring I ended my track season running the 400 meter in 50.3 seconds and I was really proud of that. it was a pr and i made it to the ECACs (eastern collegiate athetlic champs for division III colleges) but what I really wanted to do was run a 49...anything..

I did the 800 in a relay and my coach said I was around 1:57..soo now im thinking about doing the 400 and the 800 next year.

My team mates also are losing seniors to the wrath that is graduation and need runners to fill in for Cross Country...do you think that Cross Country will ruin my 400? I know the 800 will beneifit but im worried about the 400...my coach said im not going to run as much as the other distance runners (30 miles a week as opposed to 70)..xc would be for fun but im still worried...

  1. cross country will not help your 400m time...........would u see jeremy wariner running a cross country no...........cross country is for slow twitch muscles.......400m fast twitch muscles.......run 200m this will help your speed for 400............

50.3 sec is a good time........stick to what ur good at

  2. I think it would be fine as long as your coach adapts your training towards the 400m in the spring/summer. The cross country could actually help because it makes you tougher which could help when you get tired in that last 100 of the 400m. Good luck
