Question:

A Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines question?

My family wants to plan a cruise with RC. I was wonder what extra do I have to pay. A friend of mine went on a cruise with RC last and he said that if they wanted to eat stuff like burgers or grill stuff, they had to pay. I know some of their ships have place like Ben and Jerry's. Do you have to pay for that? I've been on Carnival plenty of times and everything's free except for alcoholic beverages and desserts at the cafe(but it's worth it). If someone know, please respond. Thanks.

  1. I have been on many RC cruises and I can tell you from first hand knowledge that you will not have to pay to eat.  The price of your cruise includes free breakfast, lunch dinner, snacks and free 24/7 room service.

All RC ships have a buffet area called THE WINDJAMMER CAFE where you can get all types of free food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, including hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, and all types of foods and deserts.  Then every ship has a main dining room which may be 2 or 3 levels where you can have a free order from a menu breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Coffee, hot and cold teas, milk, juices, punch and lemonade are all included free.  You will pay for beer, wine, alcoholic drinks and soft drinks.  Some ships have a free soft ice cream stand, self service, and you can always order ice cream free with lunch and dinner, but if you want Ben and Jerry ice cream you have to pay for that.

Some RC ships have one or two specialty restaurant where there is a fee.  The ships that have a Johnny Rockets diner that serves hot dogs, hamburgers, shakes, and onion rings the fee is $3.95 per person per visit.  This may be the place that your friend was referring to.  But you can still get the same food free in the buffet and on some ships at an outdoor grill at lunch time.

In addition many RC ships have a Portofino and or Chopps restaurants where there is a fee of about $20 per person to east.  But that's only if you don't want to eat in the regular dining room and want a special meal.

Q:  What dining options are offered onboard?

A:  You're going to need some serious energy food for all the activities and excursions on a Royal Caribbean cruise. And whether you're hungering for a quick snack or an elegant dinner, we've got you covered!

Dining options vary from ship to ship, but here's an idea of what you'll find:  Enjoy a warm, full meal for breakfast and a multi-course feast for dinner in the Main Dining Room.

Options abound in the Windjammer Café - perfect for a quick lunch or a casual meal.

Our Specialty Restaurants - like Chops Grille or Portofino - offer amazing food in a restaurant atmosphere.

If you've got a sweet tooth, grab a scoop at Ben & Jerry's or a creamy shake at Johnny Rockets - our lively onboard diner.

Meals from many onboard venues, such as the Main Dining Room and Windjammer Café, are included in the price of your cruise. There is a $20.00 USD per person service charge to dine at the Portofino Restaurant and a $25.00 USD per person service charge for Chops Grille. To dine in Johnny Rockets, there is a $3.95 USD per person service charge. All prices subject to change.

  3. I'm confused by taiflori. answer - great advertiement but he offered up a whole nother question - Q what dining options are offered - where did that come from - besides left field.  My understanding is that the question was about what you pay for and what you don't.

  4. If you eat at any of the specialty restaurants, you will have to pay.  If you just eat at the regular restaurants and cafes, then it's all included.

  5. You need not spend one cent on food with all that they have to offer.  Burgers are included.  Soft drinks and alcohol are not included.  You can buy a soft drink pass for the length of the cruise and save some money.  Also, they have suggested tipping guidelines for the cabin steward, head waiter, waiter and assistant waiter.
