I just read something about some guy who is a freak on Russian history they say he was commissoned by the English Royals to paint Prince Charles' s portrait. How can I find out if this guy is telling the truth or just blowing hot smoke?

Thanks guys!

  1. try wikipedia

  2. Being well informed on Russian history doe snot make someone an artist. If you consider why would an American be chosen over an English or Commonwealth artist, I think you can work out your own answers

  3. I suppose you could e-mail Mr. Atchinson to find out if he is telling the truth.  I've found his web site online, and given Prince Charles' fascination with the Greek Orthodox Church, which is a very similar in format, doctrine, and practice to the Russian Orthodox Church, the Prince of Wales could very well be having an ikon-like portrait made of himself.

    Other than the ikon web site, Bob Atchinson lets a neighborhood group in Austin, Texas, use his server, but I could find no further mention of him on the Web.  However, don't discount him as an artist just becase he is from Texas.  Some Texas artists command very handsome commissions.

  4. The phrase "A Royal Commission" has a particular meaning - an enquiry into a larger issue of long term public concern which transcends Politics. I think you mean "The Commissioning of a protrait of the Prince of Wales, by the Royal Family".

    If you want to enquire about such works, try contacting either;

    Sir Hugh Roberts, KCVO FSA, Surveyor of the Queen's Works of Art,

    Jonathan Marsden, LVO, Deputy Surveyor of the Queen's Works of Art, or

    Desmond Shawe-Taylor, Surveyor of the Queen's Pictures

  5. Why on Earth would the British royal family commission "some guy from Texas" who is an expert (even if more than only in his own mind) to paint a portrait of the Prince of Wales?  Souds pretty smoky to me.

  6. Historians do not good artisits make, unless you are Leonardo Da Vinci.

  7. I haven't heard of him or the commisioning of a portrat of Prince Charles.Not that that makes it untrue,of course.Rolf Harris,the Australian singer,was commisioned to paint the Queens portrait so,it could be true.
