A.S. Roma target Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti as a replacement for Claudio Ranieri
Sources reveal that the Serie A side A.S. Roma are targeting Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti to replace Claudio Ranieri, who has failed to deliver results for the Italian outfit. If things go according to plan the Italian will be on his way to the Stadio Olimpico
during the summer.
Both managers are under immense pressure at their respective clubs. Ranieri has not been able to handle the former Serie A giants, who are currently at eighth place on the table, 13 points behind league leaders AC Milan.
They suffered three consecutive defeats in the domestic league before losing out to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League. The management at Roma seems to be determined to bring in a replacement and Ancelotti is at the top of their list.
Ranieri however denied all talk of a Roma exit, he said while speaking to reporters after the Champions League loss, “No, I'm not even thinking of it. Do you see a team in crisis? I don't see a team in crisis, I see a team that is playing, fighting, and
creating many chances.”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss continued, “We played very well and I have nothing to reproach the players for despite losing. You can't just look at the result when you evaluate the game; you also have to look at the other team.”
Ranieri was referring to the fact that his side managed to finish top of their respective group in the Champions League, beating English Premier League giants Arsenal in the process. However, they have not done too well after that as compared to the Gunners,
who beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38605 2-1.
Ranieri’s likely replacement Carlo Ancelotti is not doing too well with defending champions Chelsea either. The Blues are going through their worst slump in over 15 years and were dumped out of the FA Cup by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 on Saturday.
This means Chelsea are now just in contention for the Champions League since they are not considered to be in the Premier League title race. Ancelotti’s side are currently fifth place and will be lucky to finish in the top four.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is famous for sacking managers who fail to deliver, examples in the past are: Claudio Ranieri, Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant and Luis Felipe Scolari. It seems like Ancelotti will be joining that list shortly.
If he is not sacked, chances are the Italian will leave. He made it very clear recently he did not wish to coach a side which was not in the Champions League. For the Blues to qualify for next season’s Champions League, they will have to finish in the top
four.
They face Manchester United in a must-win fixture in the Premier League and FC Copenhagen in the Champions League. It is understood that if the Blues fail to get a decent result in the European Cup, Ancelotti will be leaving Stamford Bridge.
