i was wondering what AS levels were

i was reading the requirements for oxford and they ask for a few a.s levels so i was wondering what they were

since i would be an international student

anyone know?

  1. AS level stands for Advanced Subsidiary level. It can either be a free standing qualification, or used as the first half of a full A (Advanced) level. It takes a year to complete, and at the end you can either choose to take the AS exam or move on to the second half of an A level; the A2.

    Most students in the UK take them in 6th Form (years 12 & 13) after their GCSEs (General Certificate in Secondary Education) but adults can also take them. They focus on traditional study skills, and are usually taken in order to get a place in a higher education establishment or to get straight into a job.

    They are at level 3 on the NQF (National Qualifications Network)
