A Shortened Season can help Los Angeles Lakers – NBA Feature
Every NBA fan has a personal favourite team that he or she wants to see doing well. Fans wait anxiously for their favourite team’s game and the pleasure they get watching their team doing well is hard to describe. A normal 82 game
season is what people are used to, but there is a possibility that 2011-12 season will be a shortened one – courtesy the NBA lockout.
Worried? No need to be. This can actually help some teams, especially the Los Angeles Lakers. How, is what we will discuss;
1) Could help with making trades without waiting much:
It often happens that in the middle of the season a team feels that if they had some other player at a certain position, the results could have been different. If during a season, Los Angeles Lakers feel the need to make a trade,
they will not have to wait so long for doing as the trade dead line would come much sooner.
2) Excitement level of fans will be more with extended off season:
Waiting helps you forget ugly memories. The more you wait for something, the more you enjoy when it is finally there. Fans are passionate people, who curse the team when it is not doing well and give them God’s status when they
consistently start doing well. The Lakers fans are the most emotional of the lot and even if the Lakers fail to do well in the shortened season, they will have a good chance to redeem themselves very quickly.
3) Dwight Howard Rumours:
Dwight Howard contract with his current team Orlando Magic is expiring next season and there have been strong rumours that Los Angeles Lakers will try to get him. A shorter season will mean, that the Lakers will get their hands
on a fresh Howard.
It is not that Lakers should go crazy about getting Dwight because they have to play one more season before he gets free from his current team. If they lose this shortened season, the wait will not be much before he comes into
Los Angeles Lakers.
4) Less games might extend career of aging players in the team:
Los Angeles Lakers line-up include experienced players who know all about the game but the fact is that with time, they are getting older and obviously less agile.
By playing lesser games than normal, these players might play one or two more seasons more than what they would have actually played and who knows what they achieve in the bonus seasons.
5) Team will face less criticism in case it exits early:
Imagine if there are total 40 games in the shortened version and Los Angeles Lakers don’t perform well and get eliminated early in the tournament.
Though they will face the criticism but it would be less than compared to if it was a normal 82 match season and fans will quickly forget and forgive their team.
