  1. Corporal punishment doesn't work.  It was abolished in schools in the late 80s (we were told this by our Religious Studies teacher one Friday) but the number of incidents didn't go up after that!

The main problem in Education at the moment is the constant working towards tests each year. If the Department of Education let teachers teach instead of going through paperwork, everyone would be a lot happier, including the young people.

  2. The solution to the UK Education problems would be to let teachers get on with the job they were trained for.  Over the past couple of decades, teacher's have had to take on many other responsiblities - including more and more form filling and putting kids metophorically into cubby holes which are not suitable and dealing with problems beyond their control.

Special schools which had specialist teachers trained to deal with various problems have been closed down and these children forced into 'normal' schools where teachers are not trained to deal with these kids.  Our local primary school for instance has to deal with deaf kids, learning difficulties including down sydrome, behavioural problems and those whose behavioural problems could be dealt with by a bloody good hiding (oops, not being PC again!).  Many parents would love their kid to be in a school where, whatever their problems, they could get the best teaching and care applicable to their needs.  One teacher and a classroom assistant, however good they are cannot hope to cope successfully in such a mixed class as this.  The children with problems get frustrated and those who could do well are held back and also suffer frustration and so kick off.

They are putting millions into 'superschools' and academies but not dealing with the basics.  We need a variety of smaller, different types of schools in all areas so we do not have to pigeon hole the kids and the teachers can do the job they trained for and chose to do.

  3. the way to get good education back is punishment let the kids who deserve it get a slipper or something other than just a teacher with no self confidence standing at the front going to the class

If you say that one more time ill be very cross
