A Sonnet: Care to Comment?

Question

Does she look as good as when you met her?

You can see her constantly working out

Questioning herself, she is filled with doubt

When a compliment would make things better

There is a reason that her head is down

Low self esteem, just looking for a sign

This is where you tell her that she is fine

Not one lifting word is there to be found

As she walks by you have nothing to say

Such inner beauty admired by none

Trapped in darkness while looking for the sun

Searching for someone to take her away

Just one compliment would make things better

That she looks as good as when you met her

All of us women go through this.  We don't really believe your compliments either.  As Archie Bunker said after he needed glasses, "Sometimes God makes it so you don't see what you ain't supposed to see."  One suggestion: for "lifting," you might consider "uplifting."  The form and meter are perfect as is the message that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The longer one is married, the gradual daily change takes place, but some how, I can't explain, maybe it is the love of youth remains in the eyes of the beholder, Could it be on both

parts, a simpe case of denial.
