A Squad of Stars that will be missing from South Africa (Part 1)
The summer’s footballing extravaganza in the South Africa is less than 2 weeks away and with most of the squads announced there are a number of startling omissions that would have lit the world stage just on the basis of sheer skill and talent.
Here is an all star squad that will surely be missed in South Africa but is capable of beating any one.
Ben Foster – England
It was widely believed at the start of previous year that come june 2010, Foster will be first choice England goalie but a string of dismal and error strewn performances for his club have seen a drastic fall in his stocks. His most shocking piece of performance was against Manchester City when his stupidity allowed Man city to take the lead and his failure to stop a 25 yarder from Andre Arshavin at his near post were the kind of mistake that saw him fall behind in the pecking order at old Trafford. But nonetheless the youngster is sheer talent and just need to get his composure back and that is the sole reason of him being included in the all star missing squad.
Javier Zanetti - Inter Milan
Arsenal could not do it, Manchester United could not do it and La Liga has practically almost given up hope of ever achieving the feat. The feat being mentioned here is stopping the machine gun that is Messi. But Zanetti managed it in the semi final of the Champions league when he put chains around the mesmeric Messi and thus providing his side a platform to progress to the final of the champion’s league. The assured manner in which he dealt with the trickery, pace and skill of the diminutive Argie is an ultimate defending tutorial at the highest level to any aspiring full back.
Zanetti has over a century of caps for his side and although he wouldn’t had to deal with Messi at the World cup as both are team mates but there are other similar threats and his team would definitely be weaker without their former captain.
His replacement for the tournament is Jonas Guttirez of New Castle – and perhaps that say it all, a player who has been playing in the Coca Cola Championship for the whole season has been picked up ahead of the Champiosn League winning captain, baffling however it may be but that is Maradonna the manager for you.
Jean Alain Boumsong – France
When your defending is worse than that of Titus Bramble, the premier league’s byword for calamity, that is perhaps the end of it all but that’s something with the water in New Castle as Bramble has improved in leaps and bounds so has Boumsong. His rejuvenation began at Juventus two seasons ago when he formed the heart of a defence that won promotion back to the Serie A and the progress has continued at Lyon.
An international of immense experience who has been part of travelling party for the last three major events would have been invaluable at this world cup but has been overlooked in favour of other young and aspiring defenders but we still decided to put him in our all star missing squad, preferring experience over youth.
