Question:

A Stranger in your own Land?

The English countryside, once the pride of the world, is being turned into a rubbish dump with tracts of land being devellopped for people who haven`t even arrived to these shores thus depriving those of us who are here of 1) environment, 2) conservation, 3) harmony with nature and 4) neighbours with shared interests and ideas.

How can we stop the decline?

  1. Well,i always thought we should have shut our borders years ago.

I totally agree about our once beautiful countryside,it seems to be getting smaller and smaller and there is so much fly tipping as well as being built on by developers, and most of the new homes wont be able to be bought by the locals anyway,as they are so expensive, and most of the homes end up being second homes and weekend retreats for the well heeled, and they hate being woken up by mooing cows or bleating sheep.

Its such a shame, but all the time we just let things go along as they are,we will end up like a third world country and most of the third world will be over here living on benefits they haven't earned right too.

  2. Close our borders?

  3. do want they do in australia close the borders dont let anymore in and heavy fines for dumping rubbish there if thats not the right place

  4. distroy humanity

  5. Bring back compulsory conscription into the army!

It would solve yob behaviour, it would discourage foreign residents moving to the UK (a lot of them come here to avoid conscription into the army!) and it would help people develop a trade when they leave (a lot of army positions are not just about fighting!)

  6. How can we stop the decline?

Can I recomend checking the results of the Rural Housing Commission http://www.defra.gov.uk/rural/housing/co...

Perhaps start by checking what planning actually allows, and not believing all the right wing media hype (written by editors who all go back to their country estates at the weekend, to trash it with 4x4s, hunting...)

the planning controls brought in after WW2 have severly restricted development in the countryside.

Outside the planning envolopes for each settlement only affordable developments are permitted (exception sites), and these are only for people with a connection to the village (section 106)

Most developments within the village boundary are large houses for rich people from towns - certainly not for the average refugee/asylum seeker.

No one will build for people who arn't even in the country yet as you seem to assert - that does not make any politcal or economic sense.

(Unless you are thinking of Dubai? reclaimed land for mega-rich footballers & the like)

  7. until you stop capitalism and everyone spending money like its going out of fashion youve got no chance

  8. I'm not sure there's anything that can be done. Realistically, like it or not, we're just going to have to adjust.

How have we not brought it on ourselves by what we voted for?

  9. HOW CAN YOU STOP MANKINDS SELF DESTRUCT WHEN THERE IS NO ABORT BUTTON?WE ARE DESTROYING RAIN FOREST(THE EARTHS LUNGS) AT A FANTASTIC RATE,CHRIS REA,THE ROAD TO h**l,A VERY MOVING SONG,AND SO TRUE.

  10. The world is your oyster

  11. sticter planning laws to stop people building over our countryside.  I'm lucky that where i live is going to be made into a national park soon so the countryside should be here forever but sadly it is far too easy to build on or exploit greenland on the outskirts of towns and cities, so they just keep expanding outwards.
