  1. Hitting 3 balls, or any ball for that matter, is all about timing.  The best way to improve timing is practice, practice, practice!  Keep hitting them until your arms fall off. Repeat it enough and your body will remember.

  2. Hitting "3" is like hitting "2" but at a farther distance. You timing is almost the same, but your wrist needs to snap and twist harder to hit an angle (when I started learning "3", I was always hitting the "line" as my wrist would not provide enough power to offset the "shooting power" from my setter).

  3. A lot of people may not know what a 3 is because each team uses different vocabulary to describe sets. I'm assuming a 3 for you is quick "shoot" set between the outside hitter and the middle of the court. As a middle, in order to hit this three, you need to take a quick step outside to the left and make a "hook" approach to the 3 spot.

As always, remain open to the setter, this puts you in the best position to adjust because, of course, the setter is just as important as you in this play set. If the set is a little slow, you can swat at it with an outstretched hand.

By the way, My "remain open" to the setter means that your shoulders are both equally facing the setter. You don't want to look over your shoulder at the setter. Your chest should be facing the setter everytime you approach the net to hit. (This is slightly different when playing the OPP, but there is a way for the OPP to remain open with approaching goofy-footed.
