A test championship has been discussed at ICC level for the past 6 months. Though details have yet to be agreed upon, the competition model is unlikely to take the form of a World Cup-style tournament, but rather a four-yearly home-and-away series, with points awarded for each match and a winner crowned at the conclusion.

What do you think about it?

Will it help enliven test cricket?

  1. that sounds excellent.

I hope it does enliven test cricket.

and maybe we will see more close test matches instead of teams winning by an innings and 30 runs.

  2. A 4 year championship?   My God!   And I thought a test match was long!

No!   I don't think much about it.   And if anything, it'll put people OFF test cricket.   People just won't have the attention span to accomodate a 4 year championship.   Anything longer than a year and they're wasting their time.

  3. Correct me someone, if I am wrong, but some years ago, this concept did materialize, with some tests being considered part of the world test series. Or my mistake. But definitely an idea worth pursuing, and if it takes too long, then something could be done to make sure the interest remains. like having it in phases, or one match from each series could be considered part of the year long 'invisible' tournament. This will also ensure that each country plays tests against all the others, and not selectively as happens sometimes.

  4. Great idea, although the sheer logistics of it makes it difficult to comprehend!

  5. Sounds ok, so long as we still have a 5 test Ashes series.

  6. its tooooooooooooo long.so no need

  7. Just as long as India don't try to highjack it like everything else. It could be good for the game, but I think something will have to go to make way for it. IPL perhaps? lol
