Im having trouble with what this quote means...can anyone help me?

You need to read it in relation to the rest of the sentence.

It is a reference to timelessness or antiquity, as the countless moons have shimmered on the roofs.

The thousands of suns, hiding behind the walls, suggest  mystery and splendour as well.
