My husband is a Viet Nam vet, he is disabled but not from the war. He is going through VA for his medical. Is there any type of medical insurance I can receive through VA? All I can find is if he was disabled while in the service or if he dies. And if there isnt, does anyone know of a decent insurance that wont break me? I only work PT and dont recieve insurance through work.

  1. You state that your husband is disabled, well as far as a medical plan that will cover him, it all depends on whether he is disabled by social security and receiving a disability check.

In your 25th month of disability you become eligible for Medicare part A and part B. If he has Medicare then there are lots of medical plans to choose from that will cover him, some include prescription drugs or you can purchase a medical plan and a separate stand alone prescription drug plan.

These plans vary by what area and zipcode you reside in, but all the major carriers offer these at little or no cost above the Medicare part B premium of 96.40 that most everyone has to pay if they are a Medicare beneficiary.

If all the above applies to him you can contact a local independent agent or broker who specializes in these type plans to decipher the best one for him, or you can contact Medicare for help 1-800-medicare or go to their website at www.medicare.gov to look at the available plans in your area.

As far as the VA offering medical insurance plans, they do not, they only provide medical services to their veterans at their facility so in your case at least he is receiving some care.  Best wishes.

  2. He can get services from the VA.  They set a priority based on income, how disabled, etc...

Depending on where you live you may get services FAST or very slow.

If you want to knwo what socialized medicine  (Hillary/Obama) wold look like....look to the VA medical system.  Some parts very good,  some Ok  soe terrible..and the waits can literally kill you

  3. There is nothing through the VA to cover you. Talk to an idependant agent to see if there is something you can afford. It all really depends on if you have any medical conditions that are pre-existing, you age, general health. How often you need medical care and what you can afford to pay in premiums, deductibles and co-pays also need to be considered.

EDIT: To the other posters-she is asking about insurance for herself, not her disabled husband!

  4. yah he can go t2 the Va my mom works their and they treat Vets and any other milatary ppl
